VOLLEYBALL RULES

  1. Must have a minimum of 4 players at all matches

  2. Two girls minimum, (CO-ED) 3 guys max (ex. 2 girls and 3 guys is OK). Must be 18+ years of age.

  3. Three games to a match, rally scoring to 25, have to win by 2 (cap at 27) 55 minute game times, 1 minute breaks between games

  4. You may NOT touch any part of the net with your body, hair and shirts will not count as a fault.

  5. You may NOT block or attach a serve at any time

  6. On a serve, front row players may not leave their feet and set the ball back over to the opponents side

  7. When serving the ball you will get 8 seconds and 2 chances to toss the ball (ex. If you have a bad toss the first time you may try one more time but there may be no contact on the ball the first time)

  8. Serves that hit the net and go over the net to the opponent's side will be "live" and are good serves provided the opposing team plays them or they land in bounds.

  9. You have to stay behind the back line when serving; no part of your foot can touch the line.  If your foot touches the line it is the opponents point and they get the serve.

  10.  When ball is played more than once by a team, a female player shall make at least one of the contacts.

  11. The ball must be contacted cleanly and not held, lifted, pushed, caught, carried or thrown. The ball cannot roll or come to rest on any part of a player's body

  12. The ball CAN contact any number of body parts down to, and including the foot, providing such contacts are simultaneous and the ball rebounds immediately and cleanly after such contact.

  13. A contact of the ball using the fingers of one or two hands to direct the ball toward a teammate is a set. The ball must come into contact with both hands simultaneously and leave both hands simultaneously to avoid a double hit call

  14. A player is not allowed to attack the ball on the opposite side of the net. If the ball is hit above the hitter’s side of the net and then the follow-through causes the hitter’s hand and arm to cross the net without contacting an opponent or the net, the action does not constitute a fault.

  15. Each team is allowed a maximum of 3 contacts of the ball in order to return the ball to the opponent's area.  (Exception: In the action of blocking an attacking ball, the touch, or contact resulting from the block attempt does not constitute one of the three successive contacts)

  16. Forfeit Policy: 10 minute grace period after game’s scheduled start time with a point a minute penalty to actively FIELD A TEAM. After the 10 minutes, first game is forfeited. Team will then have 15 more minutes to field a team. Not enough players, match is forfeited.

  17. In the case of a rain out, there will be no rematch scheduled unless the rain out exceeds three weeks of game play.

  18. It is a fault for a player to enter or contact an adjacent court during play (no part of your body can go under the net and touch the opponent’s side of the court). Player safety is a primary concern.

  19. All players and patrons need to give complete respect to the employees and property of Maple Tavern, and to all referees. Disrespect is cause for request to leave.

  20. If you have any issues with any referees please email vb@mapletavern.com

VOLLEYBALL REGISTRATION

Please note, for the season you will have a lead ref on each night. Please communicate to the lead ref if you have any issues. A reminder, refs are humans! Keep your teammates respectful (as well as you can). They do have the power to remove anyone as seen fit.

We have a volleyball phone line Text or Call ‪(612) 424-0449‬. It will be the first way to communicate about the weather. We will do our best to check our emails for last minute questions and/or cancellations. So please watch for texts and emails, otherwise the lead ref will cancel it on site if needed.

Please call to make any reservation. 763-425-2700
